How much area does it cover?

An entire floor in most homes. The 40 foot hose plus the concentrator nozzle (shoots the water another 40 feet), add up to 90 feet of coverage in any one direction - 160 feet across. Precise coverage will vary with water pressure.

Larger and multi-story homes will need additional units. Protect all family escape routes, and don't forget to protect the garage, basement, attic and other areas. which may have heating devices, fire places or flammable items. On average, most homes need two units.

Where should it be located?

In a central location to provide maximum protection. The Home Fireman does not have to be hidden in a closet! It comes in a variety of beautiful, discreet, designer cabinets to make sure you can put where you need it.

The Home Fireman blends into the décor so well that it currently resides in hallways, living rooms, bedrooms, bathrooms and even ballrooms throughout the nation. One elegant California mansion has 18 units, located throughout the home. Put The Home Fireman where you need it.

Is it easy to operate?

Yes! It is exceptionally easy to operate. The Home Fireman is for families, not firefighters. The controls are intuitive and take only a ¼ turn to get instant full pressure. The patented hose system eliminates all hooks, hangers and other contrivances that could get in the way. With one pull on the main control you can grab the nozzle in one hand and the BC extinguisher in the other - and be armed to extinguish any small fire - before it can grow.

How big a fire can it extinguish?

Bigger than any fire you should ever fight. The Home Fireman is made for families, not firefighters! Its only purpose is to give you the means to extinguish small fires before they get large enough to "fight" . It should never be used to "fight" a fire, that's a job for professional firefighters.

The rule is: if the fire can not be safely and quickly extinguished with The Home Fireman - GET OUT ! The Home Fireman is designed to prevent large fires, not fight them.

Can it assist rescue and escape?

Only as a last resort! The hose can be used to wet down people, doors, walls and clothing to help escape. You should never plan on using The Home Fireman to escape, or in any situation which might jeopardize personal safety, but it could become a last resort.

Every home should be equipped with smoke alarms and an escape plan to insure that everyone gets out long before the need for rescue arises

Can I get a discount on my homeowners insurance?

Ask. Some Insurance companies have given discounts, others are not yet aware of the unit. This site contains a letter you can print and send to your insurance company requesting a discount. SafeHome is actively working to formalize discount programs and will begin posting links to the companies offering formal discount programs as soon as possible. Please refer to the insurance page for the discount letter and additional information.

Can I install it myself?

Yes. With basic handyman skills installation is simple. The Home Fireman recesses into the wall (like a medicine cabinet) and will fit neatly between standard residential wall studs (16 o/c). For ease of installation, the unit comes with a detachable, "snap on" door and frame. You'll need to cut a single hole in the wall, and run a standard ½" or ¾" water line up through the wall to the unit. The frame will hide the wall cut and usually eliminate any need for wall repair. The entire job can usually be accomplished within an hour or two. If in doubt, hire a plumber. For details see our installation page.

What do people think about The Home Fireman?

They Love It! We're proud to manufacture a product that does some good in the world. We build each and every Home Fireman just like we were going to use it to protect our own families - because we do.

In fact, the very first unit wasn't a commercial product at all. It was developed by architectural designer (our own Sam Sartain) who put two in his own home. They were barely in the wall before he discovered that everyone else wanted one too.

Ever since then, we've been hearing the same thing every day and we are delighted every time.

"This should be in every home!"

"Why haven't I seen this before"

"It's the first time I have been able to find the fire extinguisher"

"Now my family knows what to do"

"This should be required everywhere"

"It makes me feel safe"
